Ballet Day 2020

Did you know….

Friday, 7 Feburary 2020 is Ballet day? I know, there seems to be a (insert any topic/subject matter) day almost…well daily, but around our house of girls today is one of those ones we know because we LOVE dancing and especially love ballet!

Check out the history of the day here.

Where we live we aren’t able to just head over to the ballet to celebrate, but we of course can tap into all the wonderful books we have and pretend!

Lately the girls have really enjoyed using our Nugget play couch as a stage for all their different productions. To spruce it up a little I made these Pom Pom Ballerinas for the girls to incorporate into their lineup (plus they make adorable party favors or gift wrapping details!)

Although all these books are fantastic on their own, the one they’ve really enjoyed the most for this type of play is Little Ballerina Dancing Book (with CD). This title does include a CD with over 10 songs from a variety of ballets and various forms of dancing. They love to follow along and act out the moves provided as well as mix in their own interpretive dancing. If you have toddlers ages 18 mos up who love to dance, this is bound to be a hit! To check out all the ballet books Usborne Books & More has to offer click here. The other titles are linked below individually!

How will your family celebrate ballet day today??

———————————-

Flora and the Flamingo: Wordless picture book with interactive flaps that explores the trials and joys of friendship of Flora and the flamingo through an elaborate synchronized dance. A hit with our 4.5 and 3 year old who create a different storyline each time we read it. Simple yet gorgeous illustrations and just an overall joy to read!

Angelina and Alice (Angelina Ballerina): A very popular series in our house right now, Angelina Ballerina, in this particular title Angelina and her new friend Alice overcome the challenge of friendship when one can do all the new tricks and the other can’t. After Alice laughs at Angelina for failing to perform one such trick the two have to work together to be friends again.

Dance, Tanya: This was a favorite of mine growing up and now with three little girls this has continued to be a favorite as I’ve seen it play out right in front to me! Tayna is a little sister who just wants to dance like her big sister. The story follows her efforts and is such a fun (and relatable) little read. I actually found this title at a local Half Price Books but used copies are available via other sites as well.

The Silver Slippers (Magic Charm Book): This is another book from my childhood I’ve loved sharing with the girls. Perhaps a fun title to search for whenever you visit your local bookstore or library but this title was part of a very popular Magic Charm series in the late 80s/early 90s that continues to encourage the message of "good things happen when you believe in yourself.”

I’m a Ballerina (Little Golden Book): Seriously a must if you have any little ballerinas in your life! Such a sweet and simple story that actually discusses and demonstrates the 5 positions as well as walks through the day in the life of a ballerina. We got this for our oldest when she first started ballet and has been obsessed every since, even passing it to little sister when she started classes.
